Each day I find myself browsing the internet looking at everyone's latest blog posts. I am bookmarking, saving, tweeting, posting, sharing, liking, and printing constantly. But then when it comes time for me to sit down and create and focus I find that I am muddled and foggy and just completely overexposed. I can't think a coherent original thought to save my life. How in the world could I possibly start a home based, web based business when I am so fogged by the daily information that I consume. Then I look around at the home office that I share with my husband as well as my creative space and realize that the mess of my online viewing habits is fairly indicitave of the state of my offline creative, work space.
So enter my ideas to streamline and lift the fog to a more productive, more creative life:
- FlyLady.net cleaning plans here I come. Daily chores (that will be done) and a weekly focus zone to organize your home. I am then going to take these same principles to my online habits. Pinterest will be used regularly and cleaned regularly as will my favorites on twitter. I will create binders with informatoin all catagorized and on hand when needed. Put up bulliten boards so that I can visually see inspriational ideas as I am sitting at my tables working on crafting.
- Keep a notebook with me: brainstorm, this can be a totally unorganzied space that turns into what ever I need it to in the moment. I can write down ideas, jot notes about my next blog post, sketch new cards and layouts, create tutorials for different projects, write about new mediums I want to try - knitting with wire sounds like fun - oh yeah and learning to sew.
- Work on my attention span (see bullet point above). find something to focus on each week and not move on until the next. I can keep writing new ideas down in my notebook but I will not act on them until the following week. There are so many amazing and wonderful things to learn and I don't need to conquer them all in one day.
So the question really is.... can I do it and stick with it?
How about you? What creative challenges and obstacles to you face? Anyone have anyother ideas on how to declutter your online life?
